About the Centre

Abbey Green Nursery School has been situated on Green Lane for 40 years.Originally called Green Lane nursery and housed in temporary classrooms the school opened in 1971

Over the years there have been many changes and in 2005 the old building was demolished and we moved into the new Children’s Centre building.

We have a dedicated staff who can offer a range of skills, qualities and qualifications. We have a number of early years teachers, early years practitioners and support workers. Many staff have been at the Centre for a number of years and have extensive knowledge of the community.

The Centre has a dedicated room for babies aged up to two years, and 3 well resourced rooms for 2-5 year olds. We also have two exciting and challenging outdoor areas.

Children and families from a wide variety of ethnic backgrounds come to us from the local community and from further afield.  The Centre offers free education provision for children aged 3-5 during school term time. In addition we offer extended provision for babies from 6 weeks old. This provision, for which there is a charge, is available for 48 weeks of the year. We also offer wrap-around care for children who have a nursery school place. Often starting nursery is a child’s first experience of being away from home and family.  Our priority is to support our children to be happy and feel secure in their new environment.

We offer a curriculum that follows the Department for Education (DFE) Early YearsFoundation Stage Profile and includes a wide variety of activities that help children to develop a wide range of skills.

We offer a variety of courses, classes and support for parents, carers, children and other family members through our Children’s Centre Services. These include English Classes, Parenting Support, Cooking for Men and Women, Basic ICT, Health and Beauty,Toddler Yoga and Baby Massage. Many of our courses can offer crèche provision. Working in partnership with other agencies we can offer Financial,  Employment and Housing Advice.  We also hold a number of Cafe’s, Stay and Play Sessions and opportunities to volunteer within the Centre.

We warmly welcome ideas from our families and the wider Community to help us to further develop our Centre services.
